LINCOLN CROCKETT: News

Lincoln provides all-original soundtrack for CLT video!! - April 22, 2009

After the success of ANGELS & DEVILS ALIKE, engineer/graphic designer Tom Frisch and I have been looking for ways to work together again. Late last fall he invited me to do the music for a video he was filming for the Columbia Land Trust, a Northwest regional land conservation organization. We spent a day in the old basement studio again and couldn't be happier with the results of the whole process. Yep, daddy loves to make music. Tom, you've made a great video!

Hope you or someone you know can make it!

And look out for Chris Kokesh and I on River City Folk à All this week (April 13-19) you can hear Chris Kokesh and I on public radio show River City Folk hosted by Portland's own Tom May (www.tommayfolk.com). Lincoln & Lucky Phillips @ the White Pizza Mug Thursunday! - April 7, 2009

Hi Everyone,

Ok, bear with me: I'm super excited to be doing our Monthly Family-Friendly Show with Mo Phillips at Mississippi Pizza in Portland Thursday. You know this is possible - between the kids and parents these shows are getting more raucus over time. I love 'em. This is a big weekend for Mo and loads of musical friends will be in town. Anything could happen.

And, as if winning the lottery, 30 minutes after the kids show I'll be playing with Lucky Finn at the White Eagle. Can he do it? We'll be kicking off a 3-band dogpile of musical happiness with The Reel Deel and Bad Assets. Parents, leave the rugrats at home, you'll have to cut the rug yourself (ouch)... Kids - and you - can also see Nicolas & Chris and I at the Ugly Mug in Portland this Sunday.

Lincoln in Portland Thurs and The Dalles Fri! - February 18, 2009

Hi Everyone,

I'm excited to be sharing the stage at Mississippi Pizza at 6pm this Thursday with two fantastic young songwriters on their way around the world, David Rynhart & Gabrielle Louise. We share common roots in Colorado and acoustic diversity, and to be fully honest, their music keyed me up enough to agree to play during my February 'vacation'! Let it inspire you too: www.myspace.com/davidrynhart, www.gabriellelouise.org.

Playing with Chris Kokesh (www.myspace.com/chriskokesh) is energizing like the first time, every time, and we've been invited to return to The Mint in the Dalles this Friday. For all of my Gorge-ous neighbors, the Mint is a great place to wine, dine, unwind, and have a fine (rhyme) time. Chris and I are as jazzed as ever.

Heads up for next week: Jim McKeon and I are heading down to the bar at Hotel Oregon in McMinville, OR on Friday 2/27, and I'll be appearing at the Whidbey Island Emerging Artists Festival on Saturday 2/28 in Washington!

Lincoln heads to the four corners... - July 10, 2008

Northwest Newsletter 06/08

"[Lincoln Crockett is] a sterling mandolin picker, guitarist and
compelling singer... new-grassers will gravitate to it like moths to
a porch light."
Don Campbell - The Oregonian

Hello my Angels & Devils,

The DIY adventure continues! This month I'm covering the four
corners... of the Pacific Northwest, with cool performances on the
calendar, including:

--> my first appearance in Bend on the 18th
--> a very special Sunday afternoon with Chris Kokesh at Stillpoint
Farms on the 20th
--> return trips to Seattle, Guemes Island & Tacoma
--> and much more!

I'm also pleased to announce that I've partnered up with Stacy de
Hart of VibeSiren Booking. Stacy claims her life was saved by music
and has the special gift of both enjoying time in front of a computer
AND getting out to see lots of live music. She'll be helping me
spread the good word. You can look for her stage managing at the
Pickathon in August! Thank you, Stacy!

Last month's Montana trip with JD Smith was beautiful country and
good times, and now that we're knee deep in summer it's time to make
some music:

... how people come out of the woodwork and I find myself supported. Thanks everyone who came to the wonderful Albina Green tonight, friends old and new. You made it a more-than-great evening for me personally, and you looked pretty happy yourselves!

"Lincoln Crockett is Spirit Folk with a serious Reality Check"
- Chris Kokesh

Hi Everyone,

This month I'm happy to be writing you from my new home in
Washington, a cabin in the tiny hamlet of Trout Lake. My family and
I have been itching for a switch to the simpler life - gardening &
good times - for a while now and we finally made it happen. I'm
already writing new songs and relishing in the space and community we
have here. Come visit the websites for new pics soon!

I'm delighted to be continuing this exciting journey as a very DIY
musician, and to keep bringing you some of the best acoustic music in
the Northwest. I couldn't do it without you!

This month kicks off with three reappearances by Robb & Crockett
beginning this Thursday at Edgefield's 97th Birthday Bash, Lincoln
Crockett & Enemies this Friday AND on the 19th, my Edgefield Exorcism
on the Second Saturday, the return of the Portland Parents Show (for
music lovers and their families!) on the 18th, a second appearance at
the wonderful Albina Green in Portland, and ends with the start of an
Independence Day run into Idaho and Montana. More details on the Calendar Page!

Thank you as always for your amazing support and for being a part of
the music. C U out there soon!

Peace and be well,
Lincoln

Whoa! Folklife! - May 26, 2008

Prep for the weekend at Folklife began on Friday at the Port Townsend Brewing Company. I arrived without a PA and without a moment to spare and found myself playing for the most laid-back-and-yet-still-on-it crew of folks. A quick run to 'uptown' Port Townsend (literally the old town up onthe hill where historically all the ladies hung out while the men got debauched 'downtown' by the waterfront) to steal a speaker from another bar and I was in biz. I never know what to expect playing for people hanging outside for a drink, but this bunch drank and listened and tipped and signed the email list like we were old friends. I might sound like a broken record, but it never ceases to amaze me how people respond and who my audience are: every size, shape, color and age of man woman and child. Places like Port Townsend and I get along.

Saturday's 1pm set at Folklife's Cafe Impromptu was, well, hard to read. I always love playing, but an early day crowd looks at you the same when they're really enjoying you as when they're bored. Still, enough folks were excited
afterward to let me know I hit the mark for someone!

I must say, the Folklife street-scene is just about out of control. The buskers all have drums, so I didn't stand a chance, and gave up after 2 3-song attempts and $5. Even the other stages can all hear one another! Still, there's magic afoot amongst the chaos, and some truly great music happened. My big surprise find was the Benefit Show featuring 'Urban Indians', music and performances by Native Americans that made me laugh, cry and gave me the chills. Perhaps aggrandizing to say, but I have walked this earth before and was not a white man, to say the least.

By FAR, the highlight was the workshop I gave on Sunday, "Songwriting the Traditional Way". I was invited to lead something as part of a series of different workshops by young string-band musicians. I was the lone songwriter, but not lonely for sure. Generally, the only people interested in the art/craft/skill/lunacy of songwriting are songwriters, and all deeply want to listen and be heard. That made for some wonderful juju around the 30 person circle. It seemed illuminating for all and was definitly heartwarming for me.

Special Bonus: All weekend I reconnected with long lost friends who were showing up out of nowhere. You know who you are and thank you for being you. Thanks to all for such wonderful experiences and see you out there again soon,

Lincoln

aahhh, I love touring... - May 19, 2008

...meeting new people, seeing old friends, solidifying new friendships... just getting to share my excitement about music with new people makes it all worth while, to say nothing of actually making a living doing what I love.

That said, last weekend's run of shows was worth writing home about. Chris Kokesh and I began on Thursday in Cottage Grove, OR at the Axe and Fiddle. Great venue, always the most laid back vibe. Sparse attendance, but everyone there locked-in, right down to the end of the bar and the end of the night. Chris and I are locking in to a musical love-affair ourselves, these duo shows are special and we look forward to doing more soon.

Friday I headed out to the Dalles, OR to play at the Westwind Gallery, and ended up landing in the middle of the intersection of the tight-knit outdoors community and the tight-knit music and arts community in the Eastern Gorge. Thanks to Marty for hosting and Richard Hallman for his gorgeous photos I had to look away from, plus his shots of men quite literally throwing themselves to the wind. It was like finding a piece of the world I knew in and around Colorado right here in the Northwest. Can't wait to get back.

Saturday I returned to remote Guemes Island and the ever-supportive Anderson's General Store. People, the island is laid back, the food is amazing, and they support great live music. I was lucky enough to return when the ferry was foot-traffic only! Picture me with all my instruments, merch and gear loaded into a wheelbarrow! It was hilarious! Like Thursday it was sparse attendance, but this time due to the islanders heading out into the first really warm weather of the year. Meanwhile, those who remained and I had a great evening together. Plus tips and cd sales made it more than worth my time. I am constantly amazed by the response people have to my music. Even if they're only passing through, they take notice.

Sunday Jes Raymond and I played to my Olympia Crew in the strange and wonderful Plenty performance space. Oly is always hit or miss for music, even when Cross-eyed Rosie headed thru, but getting to share songs with my friends who know every word is like playing a stadium show as far as I'm concerned.

More road news to come. See you out there soon!

Meet Lincoln Crockett & Enemies! - April 29, 2008

The 'Biddy Band' now has a name: Lincoln Crockett & Enemies. We're building a LOT of bridges between musical styles - blues, bluegrass, deep grooves & fusion - and having a really exceptional experience doing it. If its half as much fun for you as it is for us you'll have a great time! We're only in the Portland area right now but we think out of towners will agree that its worth the trip. EVERY FIRST FRIDAY with one exception: we'll be off on July 4th to celebrate but returning JULY 22nd.
